Homeward Bound Quilt

I finished the 2023 Quilt along from The Quilt Show. The pattern is called Homeward Bound.

The top is done and the photo is from the "floor design wall". So, it is not the best.

The pattern designer is Sarah Fielke, and my quilt top is 70 1/2 inches square.

I am very happy with the result of this 12 months journey. Not always straightforward. The big blue birds were too large for the area, it took some "fudging" to fit it.

If I ever to this again (no way), I would edit the birds and make them more in proportion with the rest of the quilt top.

January 1st, 2024, I will start the new sew along.

Bakers dozen

My Bakers' Dozen quilt is finished.

This is a Jan Kingwell pattern that finished at 73 inches square.

I used a Gelato fat quarter bundle and a variety of white fabrics from several collections and even a piece of white fabric that was made in North Carolina, probably quite a few decades ago, since all the mills were closed in that state when manufacturing moved to Asia.

I am calling my quilt "Humble Pie Bakers Dozen". I had to remake the blocks more than once. This quilt requires attention to detail and correct positioning of the various pieces that are very similar. Not a good thing when you are distracted by life events.

But I am very pleased with it. I quilted the top in the embroidery machine hoop using an Amelie Scott design.

Potato Chips Block Quilt

This quilt is completed and ready to be donated. The 12 inches blocks are made of 2" by 3 1/2" rectangles.

I used Tula Pink fabrics from a couple of different collections that were left over from other projects and added some black and white fabrics to create the square design.

The quilt finished 60" by 72" and is a perfect size for a twin size bed.

It was quilted using a Amelie Scott design on a Bernina domestic machine.

Potato Chips Quilt Blocks

Potato Chips Block

This is the start of a donation quilt using leftover fabrics from  previous quilts.
The blocks are made with bright fabrics designed by Tula Pink and black and white fabrics.
The "potato chips" block instruction is from the YouTube channel: Conquering Mount Scrapmore with Brenda.
I used the 2" by 3.5" "chips. The finished size of the block is 12 inches.
She also give directions for other sizes of rectangles; and ideas for making different types of blocks.

Bakers Dozen Quilt

Humble Pie Quilt

This quilt top was made using the Bakers Dozen pattern by Jen Kingwell. I used a Gelato Ombre fat quarter bundle by Maywood Designs that I bought quite some time ago.

The quilt is 73" by 73" and I am calling mine: "Bakers Dozen Humble Pie." I can honestly say that I made most of the blocks more than once. So much un-sewing went on that I need a new seam ripper.

I will quilt it soon. But for now it needs to be in a corner so I can forget all the aggravation it has caused me. 😃

Trying to decide on the colors for the next border . I am late for the party.

I am working on the applique patterns for July and August now.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Itty Bitty Blocks Quilt

This quilt is made of 3" blocks in the center and 4" blocks on the borders.

These blocks were exchanged among the members of the Cotton Pickin Bee.

It was so pleasant to make the blocks. We each made 10 of the same block per participant and exchange them so we each would have all the different blocks.

We had a whole year to complete the blocks. It was not too hard to make them because we could made a few blocks at a time.

It was quilted on my embroidery machine with an Amelie Scott pattern.

Rectangle and Squares Comfort

This quilt was made with some extra fat quarter pieces from a previous quilt. I sewed it as a leader and ender while piecing another quilt (which is still not completed).

I will donate it to the Quilt Guild of the Greater Houston Guild for the comforts program.

The colored pieces were cut 8" by 4" and the squares of light fabrics were cut at 4" square. The only reason I cut at these sizes was because it was the size of some of the leftover pieces from the previous quilt.

I made 12 columns and 5 rows. It is a nice lap size quilt.

Barn Star Sampler Block 2

These 2 blocks are the same pattern made with different red fabrics and the same background fabric. The blocks are 24" finished and will be part of a quilt to be auctioned.

This pattern is for block 2 in the the book Barn Star Sampler by Shelley Cavanna.

Butterfly Collage

This is an old quilt; but I love it (still).

I made this quilt top on a class given by Susan Carlson sometime around 2013-ish. I did not write the date.

It is my only collage quilt using tacky glue and not a stabilizer like Steem a Seam. It is a pattern provided by Susan; but the fabrics are my own.  My quilt is 23 inches by 31 inches. All fabrics are batiks.

I have not made another quilt like this. I am too compulsive and I still get out the glue and fix some of the raw edges from time to time. It is a great method; but I do prefer the stabilizer to "glue" the pieces down.

Susan recommends to use tulle on top of the collage to help with quilting and also to keep the pieces glued; but I did not use tulle. I considered using it for a long time; but in the end I decided against it. It is another great  texture to be added for sure; but I like it as is.

Homeward Bound Quilt Month 4 Done

I have finished appliqueing the large flowers that were part of the month 4 installment for this BOM.

It was not an easy thing to do. The petals do not fit well in the space allocated to them.

It took some rearranging and in the end, I feel that I just made it fit because I was tired of adjusting them. It was like to insert a square peg in a very round opening.

This is my leisure time, I don't need to stress over it. I hope the next parts will fit better.

Homeward Bound Quilt - March 2023

I have completed the 4 blocks for the Homeward Bound Quilt that is a BOM (Block of the month), at The Quilt Show website for the  year of 2023.

I am using my own fabrics and colors.

One leaf on the small stem is only pinned in place until the flowers that will be added to the long stem on the middle block are in place.

The pattern is free to members of The Quilt Show site until December. A new part of the quilt is released every month.

Another old but good

This was made with blocks exchanged from a previous Bee. The block is from the book "Nickel Quilts".
It always brings back great memories of great friends.

Moorish Star

I made this quilt in 2005 with fabrics I won as a door prize from my guild at that time. The Orange Durham Quilt Guild. DOQ.
It won a 3rd place at the 2006 show by the guild. Quilted by F Blouin.

Starting a new project

Posting using phone and email test.
How can I rotate this picture?
I am trying to figure out how to post using my phone and I don't know how to rotate the photo once it is downloaded to the blog.

Garden Party 2022

I did finish the top for my Garden Party Down Under top in December (2022); but the top is not quilted yet. This was a BOM (Block of the Month); for The Quilt Show in 2022. The pattern is Irene Blank.

Happy 2023!!!

Pick a Petal Block of the Month-March

And, so far, I have made a lot of the glorified 9 patch that were available in February and quite a few of the March block, which is quit...
