NC State Fair 2011 and more

Sylvia's Wedding Quilt block of the week:
This is the block for this week.  I loved making this one. I love New York Beauty blocks and this was no different. It is actually called Oklahoma Dogwood on this sampler quilt. It finishes 6" like the others. Talking about others, since there are 140 blocks, I just did the math and came to the conclusion that at my current rate, I will finish them all in 14 months. :-D

The 2 photos above are from the North Carolina State Fair 2011. I knew that my quilt: Thirty's Cotton Bowl (photo above), had received the 3rd place. I did check on line; but what I did not know until I got there, it had also own the "Gold Needle Award." This is a ribbon given by the Judges. It is the equivalent of judge's choice. There were 3 judges and one of them gave me this ribbon. I was the happiest person on that fair last Friday. The quilt will be home tomorrow. I can't wait to see it again and read the comments. My friend Gayle S. did the outstanding quilt.
I used 1930's reproduction fabrics on the blocks.
The pattern is from Bonnie Hunter from quiltville.blogspot.com  and was the mystery quilt for 2010 called Roll Roll Cotton Bowl.
Photo below show some of the gorgeous quilts that also won some special ribbons and were displayed in the same area.
