Just finished this quilt top to a 71" X 90" to donate to a local shelter. It started as a Bee challenge and with the request for quilts by this entity; it grew to the required size. 

Basket weave block  is: 8.5" X 10.5"

This charming store called Mi Marinita, is near the Cathedral in Valladolid in Spain.

I had a great time talking with the owner who is really nice.

It is really worth checking it out. I bought some nice Tilda fabrics that are not so easy to find in the US.

Happy leap day 2016

I am out of my studio for now. Everything packed away for repairs.

But there is always hope that it will be completed soon. Meanwhile, hand work it is.

Birthday block 2016

I am participating once again on my Bee's "birthday block" activity. We each make blocks for each other of our own choice; and on the month of our birthday, we get the blocks that we requested. 

EQ7 Block designed by me

I have requested the "Swoon" block.
I am also learning how to use my EQ7 program; and decided to draft the block at 12 inches size using the program. It was a lot of fun to dust some brain cells. I am so glad I did it.
EQ7 prints templates and rotary cutting directions; and that is what I gave my friends. 
I learned that I should have added more directions than that. It seems that the block has been very challenging to make.

I do hope I still have friends in the end. But I can't wait for July when I get my blocks.

Progress in February

These are 2 projects to share. 

The colorful quilt will be donated to my guild - The Guilt Guild of Greater Houston.

 It started with donated 2 inches strips by my friend Diane H. I made 4 X 4 blocks with the addition of more fabrics from my Bee and the subgroup Bowl Weevils.

Each block is 6 inches square and I have 6 by 8 rows with a total of 48 blocks. The quilt measures 36 inches by 48 inches.

It was quilted on a Bernina 780 using a stencils as a guild. I did not mark the top; but kept referring to the stencil as a (much needed) guide.

I am not going to make the column quilt. I will only make 1 block a month on the color she suggests. I just want a very small wall hanging. Please refer to her blog for the directions to make this star and to see what this is all about.

February colors are brown with pink. Better get busy on that.

RSC 16 a new sew along

So, 2016 starts with a lot of new sew along projects on various blogs that I follow. Some starting this month as well as this quarter.
I am really inclined to start the RSC 16.
I have followed this blog for a few years and this is the first time I am tempted to do it. Superscrappy blog (see link below), is doing a column sew along for the first time.
But I will make only 1 or 2 blocks a month. At the end, I will see if I should add more or not.
There will be 1 color to be used each month and she is also including directions for a block every  month. But you can use any block you want and make the column or not. Very flexible ;)
The idea is to use your scraps.
She is also including PDFs for all the patterns from previous sew along.
The first month January is up, the color to use this month is: Blue  with tons of Purple.
Check it out; it might be what you need to tame the scrap monster.
